Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from this obscure Nevada iron mine. This striking, fine and rare plate is covered with sharp, translucent, lustrous, amber calcite scalenohedrons, many with dramatic hematite-tinted terminations! They look like classic old English from Egremont, but are not. The crystals reach 3.3 cm and the underlying matrix is thin rind of hematite ore. The interior is essentially pristine. A highly attractive and very rare specimen, minimally impacted by the bit of periphery wear. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and purchased in 1985. "Collected by students from the Mackay School of Mines, Reno, Nevada", according to his label. A MUST for the locality or species collector. White fluorescence. Value??
