Calcite with Yttrofluorite (RARE NEW FIND!)

A RARE, impressive and colorful large combination from a NEW FIND in China of multiple generations of minerals one atop another. Some of the lustrous, translucent, calcite scalenohedrons on this sculptural and aesthetic plate are dramatically, preferentially coated with purple Yttrofluorite. The imposing and pristine large calcite is 6.7 cm and very sparkly, tiny, gemmy, colorless, calcite crystals are richly peppered about. The purple stepped--growth faces really add charcter to the large calcite. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (MINDAT). A most interesting and RARE large calcite combination from a NEW FIND.
