Calcite with ''trigon'' Pyrite inclusions

This is a highly aesthetic and three-dimensional display specimen of Calcite with attractive Pyrite inclusions from the Calcite Quarry in Holzen. The specimen features sharp, well-formed, lustrous, soft grey color trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 2.8 cm across which have eye-catching inclusions of metallic golden Pyrite (sometimes called "trigons" and of course "Mercedes emblems"). They are reminiscent of the Calcites with similar Pyrite inclusions from Hubei, China. If you look closely, you can see that some of the Pyrite inclusions are actually exposed at the surface, so you can see the tiny sparkling crystals reflecting in the light. No major damage on the display side, and a very alluring example from this lesser-known quarry. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#431 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
