Item Description

Charcas is world famous for producing the finest Danburite crystals in the world, and they are sometimes found in association with species like Quartz and Calcite, but this piece is a bit of a different twist as the featured species is Calcite. Dozens of sharp, lustrous, translucent, very pale golden (sometimes colorless) trigonal crystals of Calcite measuring up to 1.1 cm across can be see on both the front and back of the piece. The added bonus to this specimen is that while it does not feature Danburite, it actually hosts several "casts" of sugary white Quartz replacing preexisting Danburite crystals. If you look at the underside, you can see that the "casts" are hollow inside, and only a thin shell of Quartz remains, but the original shape of the Danburite crystals is perfectly preserved. The largest "cast" measures 1.6 cm long. The piece is in great shape, and looks nice from both side. A fantastic specimen for any fan of Mexican minerals or "casts" (sometimes called epimorphs are perimorphs). These "cast" specimens are RARE folks, so don't miss out!
