Item Description
Most people don't know how fine the numerous Zeolites and associated species from the various quarries in the Watchung Moutains actually are. The Braen's Quarry was for many years a seldom collected locality, but recently some daring individuals made their way into the quarry to collect some very attractive specimens. This piece features an unusual almost "scepter-like" habit Calcite crystal of a pale peach color (measuring 4.3 cm long) which is surrounded by some very distinct, classic, well-formed, blocky, hollow "casts" of Quartz after Anhydrite with minor Hematite on matrix. The The specimen has a few "rubs" on the display side, but is a good sized and attractive display specimen. Lastly, it should be noted that this quarry is one of the very few extensive exposures of the Preakness Basalt in New Jersey.
