Calcite with Quartz

Item Description

Nearly a dozen, mocha tinted Calcite rhombohedra adorn a white drusy Quartz matrix on this attractive piece from India. The Calcite crystals range in size from 1 to 3 cm on edge and upon casual inspection they almost look like Fluorite, but closer examination shows that they are indeed tightly formed rhombohedra that appear pseudocubic. The crystals are super sharp and more of a rootbeer color at the edges and a light mocha color at the interior. The crystals are more transparent at the exterior and translucent at the interior with the transparent rims revealing phantoms just beneath the surface. The Calcites are clustered in the central, rear part of the piece and display prominently on the snow-white Quartz. The sparkly druzy Quartz are mounded like botryoids with a spiky surface of sparkling individual, 1 mm crystals. A handsome small cabinet piece.
