Calcite with Quartz

Item Description

A classic association specimen from the big Stari Trg Mine in Trepca. This locality is part of a large complex of over 40 mines located on the slopes of Kopaonik Mountain in Kosovo. This piece is a beautiful and showy display specimen featuring gorgeous, light pink (slightly manganese-bearing), rhombs of Calcite with a few prismatic Quartz crystals flaring out, creating an attractive small cabinet. some of the Calcites have a soft matte luster, but the edges features some crystals with much more of a slick vitreous luster and they transition from a pink hue to a light tan color. No major damage that I can find on the front of the Calcite crystals, but the larger Quartz crystal is contacted on the underside. A lovely piece of this well-known and in my opinion, under-appreciated material.
