Item Description

A showy and highly unusual mounded hedgehog of dogtooth calcite scalenohedrons, probably from one of the historic iron mines at Egremont. Many of the light gray, translucent spikes are preferentially coated with iridescent, microcrystalline pyrite. They look like they have been painted with gold paint in bright light. A bit of bruising and periphery wear is noted, but this remains a striking old-timer from this noted district. Ex Howard Belsky Collection.
