Calcite with Pyrite

Item Description

Elegant looking Calcite specimen with stacked, translucent, flat pyramidal or so-called nailhead terminations. The piece is aesthetically mounted in glue to where the Calcites overhang the remaining specimen like large umbrellas hiding the remaining specimen of intermixed flatten white Calcite rhombs and golden glittering Pyrite. The top Calcite measures 6.4 cm across and has preferential Pyrite coatings. Minor damage including a ding on top is noted (a white spot). The nailheads also have very detailed striations on the faces. The piece is in excellent condition. Part of the Kurt Hefendehl collection. An older specimen with the early collection number C-28 and his catalogue showing 961 specimens just for China alone.
