Calcite with Mottramite (ex Alex Venzke Collection)

Here we have a wonderful classic Tsumeb combination piece hosting fine, sharp, gemmy colorless, "poker chip"-esque Calcite discs sitting on soft green colored Mottramite on matrix. The largest Calcite measures 1.5 cm across and the luster of the Calcite crystals are excellent. A very three-dimensional piece that displays well. Tsumeb specimens are arguably the most sought-after minerals in the world, and Tsumeb is certainly the most significant mineral locality in terms of the number of high-quality minerals species (from common to exceedingly rare) found there. This specimen comes from the collection of our own Alex Venzke (#15.18), member of the leadership team of the Young Mineral Collectors group, a member of the mindat.org management team, a board member for the national Friends of Mineralogy organization, a board member for the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia, and co-founder and current Vice President of the Friends of Mineralogy Virginia Chapter.
