Item Description
We seldom see Calcite from the Osceola Mine near Silverton, Colorado. This small Calcite specimen is loaded with with spiky, chocolate brown Calcite scalenohedra bursting in every direction making the piece look like a hedgehog in appearance! The sharply tapered, pointed Calcites are relatively uniform in size at about 1 cm in length and pretty much cover the top of the piece. The entire periphery of the piece consists of moderately coarse, granular, off-white Calcite and a few broken crystals around the edge suggest that the Calcites on the piece are zoned with an off-white core and a 1 to 2 mm, chocolate colored rim. The Calcites are in great condition and it's a very good piece from the Osceola Mine! Gary Weaver colorado suite.
