Calcite with Hematite inclusions (Kidwell Coll.)

Item Description

Glassy, highly lustrous, translucent, distinctive, hematite-tinted, blocky rhombohedral calcites twins, to 4.1 cm, richly and impressively cover the large laminated gossan matrix plate covered with an earlier generation of tiny, sparkly, tinted dogtooth calcite crystals. There is more calcite on the back, as a bonus. This is a classic old style of Potosi Mine calcite that came out in the 1980s. Pristine. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. A remarkable large old Santa Eulalia two-generation calcite. 1469 grams or 3.2 pounds mass.
