Calcite with Hematite inclusions (1990s)

Item Description

Fascinating two stage Calcite on Calcite both with varying degrees of red coloration due to both oriented and dispersed Hematite inclusions. The initial dogtooth Calcites are both coated and included with brick red Hematite. The later stage nailhead Calcites are transparent to translucent clear crystals with well defined and distinctive red Hematite striations/zonations that are mostly only included in the upper portion of the crystals. Not sure how that can form but it is definitely an extremely cool feature! The main showcased crystal is 4.9 cm across with varying red saturations. The piece is in great condition with the only notable damage being the crystal on the back that is cleaved but isn't seen in the primary display view. The specimen has a interesting style and inclusion history that results in a very unique looking Calcite. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl collection. Old material from a classic 1990s find of the Chenzhou mining region in Hunan.
