Item Description
This is a sculptural and eye-catching cabinet sized display piece from Hengyang, Hunan, China comprising beautiful, sharp, vitreous crystals showing the rare combination of both rhombic and scalenohedral habits together on the sampe specimen. The crystals are white/colorless, but they show wonderful internal "phantoms" created by inclusions of red Hematite. It's not common to see two dramatically different crystals habits on the same piece like this, and they play well against each other to create a very aesthetic specimen. Very minor roughness can be seen on the upper portion of the piece, and the only real damage is on the base where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. Overall it's a very showy and certainly unusual, yet elegant piece that would make a great addition to any Calcite collection. This piece was mined in the early 2000s, and I don't have a specific locality for it, though some have suggested they were found at the Kangjiawan Deposit which is part of the Shuikoushan Ore Field. From the dealer stock of Brian Kosnar / Mineral Classics. Valued around $1,500 retai.
