Calcite with Hematite coating

Some of the most iconic Calcites from any European locality, but especially England are those from the various mines in Cumbria (Cumberland). This piece is a wonderful example of these famous Calcite featuring a plate of fine, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless modified trigonal crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, with a gentle coating of light reddish-pink colored Hematite, sitting on matrix. The Calcites are very attractive when viewed up close, and they sparkle like jewels. I can see a few small spots of damage, but the piece is largely in superb condition. It looks better in person than the video/photos indicate. Valued at $1500. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
