Calcite with Hematite

Tsumeb Calcites come in a wide range of habits and colors, reflecting the fact that Calcite has more forms than any other mineral. However, this sparkly piece is classic "simple" Tsumeb style that is ALSO immediately recognizable! This fine, small-cabinet specimen features gemmy and lustrous, stacked, rhombohedral crystals that give the specimen its classical 'stepped' appearance. Red highlights are caused by minute inclusions of hematite or iron. The largest Calcite is about 2 cm on edge, they they range from transparent crystals to a majority that are clear, shiny, crystals of rhombic 'ice cubes'. Even with Calcite being a diverse and attractive species, so many Tsumeb Calcites are almost instantly recognizable as such for this very form you see here, which increases their desirability greatly. This attractive display specimen is an aesthetic piece enhanced by great luster, good form, and its engaging two-tone coloration.
