Calcite with Gypsum (new finds)

This very attractive, 'pineapple' cluster of Calcite is composed of distinct calcite scalenohedrons up to 5 cm that is unusual in overall appearance because of their association with both hematite (iron) and gypsum. Qinglong is famous for weird gypsum assemblages and inclusions, actually, and this find from 2019-2020 is another such weird combo. The outer layer of each calcite is tinted an appealing burnt-orange by hematite inclusions, and the highly lustrous surface is actually quite detailed with many small and sharp stepped faces. There is even a coating of Gypsum, some of it crystallized, that adds to both the luster and the mineral interest of the piece. In fact, the slick glassy luster you see is really because of the thin coating of gypsum, I would imagine. Many of these came out with patchy surfaces, but this one is complete, pretty, and sparkling all around. Excellent aesthetics for this unusual cabinet specimen from a complex mineral locality that is different in style from all others. It is not an exaggeration to say that is just so sparkly and pretty, it looks like candy in person! The photos cannot capture fully the sugary look of the surface so please watch the video.
