Item Description
A gorgeous display specimen of attractive habit Calcite crystals with modified cuboctahedral Galena from the famous Denton Mine. The piece features rather sharp, very lustrous, gemmy, rich golden color scalenohedral Calcites measuring up to 7.2 cm and the metallic silvery Galena crystals measure up to 4.7 cm on edge. The piece comes from the collection of Ross Lillie (# RCL1807), and his label states that it was mined in June of 1991 from the pillar-robbing operation off the main orebody. The piece was collected by Dee Roy Dutton, a jumbo operator at the the mine. Ross said on the label that he trimmed this piece from a larger specimen that was damaged and he "got locky on this one". A great piece to add to your collection, especially if you collect Calcites, Southern Illinois specimens, or pieces with attractive crystal habits. The piece is valued at $2400, but with the way these specimens are rising in value, it could be more.
