Item Description

The Fluorite specimens from Southern Illinois are among the most recognizable and colorful examples of the species from any world locality. This area is completely closed down, and what used to be a fairly plentiful commodity on the market has now dwindled to something that is much more difficult to find. This piece is a fantastic small cabinet display piece featuring a beautiful group of very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy/translucent rich golden colored scalenohedral crystals of Calcite which play host to a deep purple colored, cubic crystal of Fluorite flaring off the lower portion of the specimen. With some strong backlighting, you can see the vibrant color inside the Fluorite shine through. The quality and overall form of the Calcite crystals is outstanding for the locality. Very little damage to the front/display side of the piece, but a few of the Calcite terminations are cleaved if you look closely. The quality is excellent for Southern Illinois, and the overall appearance makes for a fantastic and truly eye-catching example of these famous and sought after specimens. Priced at $4,000 in the inventory. From the collection of Dr. Richard "Dick" Heck, a well-known Illinois and Mexico collector.
