Item Description

The Ross Lillie collection was the most important and broadest group of Illinois minerals ever put together, and will never be beat. Some pieces were kept and selected for unusual structure, form, combination, such as this: This is such an aesthetic small cabinet specimen from older workings in the main Minerva mines. The sections of the 'snowman' stack of calcites here are composed of thin, stacked nail-head Calcites with the trigonal 'Mercedes' shapes in the termination. The Calcite has an intense white fluorescence. Associated are purple Fluorite crystals and Sphalerite. This is a very fine, aesthetic specimen in every respect. Custom base included. Mined in 1991 per catalog , Lillie collection Number RCL0839, and an unusual old Illinois classic!
