Calcite with Epidote (rare locality)

Item Description

This specimen is labeled only as coming from the Cordoba Province in Argentina, with no specific mine. It's possibly from the El Pozo Quarry, but it's only a guess. It's the ONLY piece of Calcite and Epidote that we've seen from any locality in the entire province, and features a sharp, well-formed, scalenohedral crystal of silky silvery colored Calcite measuring 3.7 cm, along with a few additional Calcite crystals sitting on a matrix of thin prismatic pistachio-green Epidote crystals with little gem quality colorless Quartz prisms here and there. The underlying matrix appears to be Magnetite, which would make sense for a skarn deposit. A very attractive and certainly rare locality specimen. From the collection of Bruce Carter, a director and producer who has worked on dozens of Hollywood films and TV shows, and has built a fine private mineral collection over the years.
