Calcite with Duftite oriented inclusions ex Sussman, Halpern

Item Description

This is a very rare style of calcite only found at Tsumeb, with oriented growths of duftite included in the modified tips of these elongated calcite crystals. It is subtle, soft-looking, and just fun to look at. Because of the balance and pristine condition of the piece, this is a fabulously composed miniature of the top quality for this material, found only a few times at Tsumeb. It came from the Mark "Stumpy" Rattay collection to Marshall and Charlotte Sussman, and was in their collection (a Tsumeb miniatures subsuite of the larger Tsumeb collection) by the late 1990s. It sold to Jack Halpern sometime before I purchased the original Sussman Tsumeb collection in 2003, and has been with Jack all this time since. We are truly honored to present this specimen from another lot of deaccessions from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005.
