Item Description

Trepca is one of the great mineral producing localities in Europe, and the prolific Stari Trg Mine in Kosovo (formerly Yugoslavia) is the central mine at the Trepca complex. This is a great display specimen featuring sharp, lustrous, well-formed, compressed, gemmy / translucent, soft yellow colored, "disc"-shaped crystals of Calcite measuring up to 2.1 cm, associated with powdery-yellow colored "balls" of Dolomite and minor cubic Pyrite. The piece is in great shape overall, and the quality and form of the Calcites is very good. If you look very closely, there is a small amount of a secondary overgrowth / deposition of Calcite on the larger crystals (best seen on the reverse side of the piece). Really eye-catching in person. No major damage that I can find, just a few small imperfections on a few Calcite crystals.
