Item Description

Calcite and dioptase specimens are very highly desirable from the famous and now-closed Tsumeb Mine. This is a striking and aesthetic combination specimen of the two species. A showy cluster of sharp, glassy, calcite rhombs to 2.7 cm on the diagonal are included by layers of dioptase microcrystals. Festooned atop the green-tinted calcite rhombs is a sparkling, second generation of sugary calcite microcrystals, which really add a dramatic effect to this excellent specimen. Periphery wear and a trivial bit of bruising are noted, but are certainly only modest detractions. Examples of this beautiful, combination varietal are seldom on the market. The sharp layering of the dioptase in the rhombs is very noteworth and striking. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Valued at $750-900.
