Item Description
Slate-gray sharp points of calcite measuring up to 3.1 cm in length, are richly encrusted with a drusy iridescent chalcopyrite coating. Not only is there a color contrast but a very nice texture contrast. This is CLASSIC material for the Brushy Creek mine, which was worked briefly in the mid-1900s and also in a more recent specimen-mining venture by Joe Kielbaso and friends in the late 1980s. Which find this came from,I cannot say. It is a superb specimen, nonetheless. When I was a kid, collecting calcite, one dreamed of owning a miniature even, from this place...they were rare as hens teeth. The 1980s project provided many for collectors but where did they all go? I have not seen many around for sale in recent years, at all, and now they are super-rare again, especially in this size and quality. Purchased or traded from the Jim Minette collection, and his label is included. Valued $900-ish
