Item Description

Calcite specimens from the Sweetwater Mine in Missouri are among the most iconic minerals from the Tri-State area of the Midwestern United States. The excellent form, color, size, gemminess and overall quality has made them popular with collectors for decades. This piece is a showy small cabinet sized display specimen hosting a sharp, lustrous, gemmy, light yellow color scalenohedral crystal of Calcite associated with iridescent brassy Chalcopyrite plus minor rhombic Dolomite on matrix. The tip of the Calcite crystal has a small cleave, but the piece is otherwise in great condition. Very showy and three-dimensional, and much harder to find on the market now than they were 20+ years ago. The piece was obtained in June of 1977.
