Item Description

This quarry is one of the very few extensive exposures of the Preakness Basalt in New Jersey. Most people don't know how fine the numerous Zeolites and associated species from the various quarries in the Watchung Moutains actually are. The Braen's Quarry was for many years a seldom collected locality, but recently some daring individuals made their way into the quarry to collect some very attractive specimens. This piece features several sharp, well-formed, light golden, scalenohedral crystals of Calcite which have formed distinct, striated, thin "casts" after Anhydrite, creating an "etched" appearance. Good quality all around, and certainly hard to find from the standpoint of th casts. A good sized and attractive display specimen.
