Item Description
A really interesting dual-generation Calcite specimen from the Fengjiashan Mine which really reminds me of the famous multi-generational Calcites from the Santa Eulalia District in Mexico. This piece is filled with sharp, lustrous, gemmy, soft golden colored modified rhombic scalenohedral crystals of Calcite which are sitting on reddish (from iron inclusions) colored "dogtooth" habit scalenohedral Calcites on matrix. The piece is very good condition overall, but it is understandably contacted around the edges. This damage actually shows a bit of generational "phantom" growth in the Calcites with various layers of color banding. The largest individual Calcite I could measure was 2.7 cm across. The piece also glows with color under SW UV lighting. A very cool piece from this famous mine, that really doesn't resemble anything else I've seen from there. My guess is that this is older material, probably dating back 15+ years. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
