Calcite with Calcite

Item Description

This highly unusual Calcite from Bavaria, Germany resembles a desert setting of weathered mesas and valleys of an old western movie. In reality it is a wonderous cave Calcite showing highly architectural growth patterns of layer after layer of Calcite formation. The multiple phases of growth are demonstrated by times of vertical crystal growth followed by episodes of flat horizons capping the crystals. Three major phases can be seen on the 6.2 cm tall column on the right side. The Calcites are translucent, thin slender crystals of varying clear, white and tan color layers. These layers are followed by secondary sugary clear to white 'popcorn' Calcite features on the basal section. The piece is in near-pristine condition. Just a really cool Calcite formation! Strong white-ish fluorescence. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl. Kurt had a huge suite of German classics and oddities, both. This would have definitely been in the oddities case!
