Item Description

Neon-pink calcite fluorescence on this impressive and sculptural large older calcite and quartz combination from this historic silver mines at Guanajuato. A dramatic, centrally-placed, 3.5 cm sharply terminated, translucent, hexagonal quartz crystal "guard tower" with satin lustre faces "protects" the rich plate of highly modified, rounded, lustrous, translucent satin lustre calcite rhombs. Scattered smaller quartz points are fine accessories and the calcite and quartz rest on a drusy quartz and matrix base. Colorless quartz is more uncommon compared to amethyst from Guanajuato. Older material dating to the 1960s or 70s from the J.G. Dixon and Tom Wolfe Collections. An outstanding and uncommon large example of this calcite and quartz combination from this famed locale. See the excellent Guanajuato article in the 2016 Mineralogical Record Mexico Special Issue VII, Vol. 47, No. 5.
