A striking, colorful and highly unusual small cabinet calcite from the historic precious metal, polymetallic deposits at Cavnic. The impressive, mounded concave specimen is dramatically and richly covered with striking mounded clusters of lustrous, flattened, nailhead calcite rhombohedrons included with rust-red hematite. The clusters rest on an earlier generation of smaller, translucent, straw-yellow calcite rhombs. The hollow interior is covered with another generation of calcite, adding allure. Complete all-around and pristine, this is an exceptional example of this very uncommon multigenerational calcite style from Cavnic. Ex Taylor Hunt Collection.
