Item Description

Lustrous and translucent, dogtooth calcite crystals are richly included with honey-brown cinnabar. The calcites have nifty stepped-growth faces and fantastic secondary overgrowths of gem calcite on the terminations! This is an outstanding and rare calcite combination from the extinct mercury deposits at Terlingua. The large crystal is 3.8 cmm. The display face is pristine and the periphery wear on the back is out-of-sight. Texas is generally known as a mineral wasteland, but Terlingua has furnished some outstanding exceptions and mercury rarities. Fairly valued at $500-750 for excellent quality, size and rarity. The Trimingham label is incorrect. This is definitely Terlingua calcite.
