Item Description

Iridescent chalcopyrite and marcasite with lustrous, translucent, gray calcite scalenohedrons are a Brushy Creek Mine classic. This is a very fine and sculptural small cabinet of sparkly intermixed iridescent golden and peacock-blue chalcopyrite and marcasite crystals preferentially coating the recessed areas of the calcites and the fascinating "bridge" between the calcites. The striking 6.5 cm compound calcite is doubly terminated. What actually happened is that the original crystals were covered with chalcopyrite and marcasite, and then the calcite resumed growing again, enveloping the original crystals in some areas and leaving the sulfides exposed in others, so these are phantoms. You can see the surface of the original large calcite inside the later, transparent overgrowths. A very showy and aesthetic example from the find.
