Calcite var. Manganoan (late 1980s style)

Dazzling textural plate of rich pink calcite clusters composed of divergent sprays with pointed conical crystals of Manganoan Calcite from the late 1980s finds in the Pachapaqui Mine, Peru. These used to come up in used oil barrels, literally by the kilo - until the pockets ended and these became a classic of 1980s Peruvian minerals we no longer see. The "hedgehog" crystal style creates a three dimensional look that combined with the soft pretty pastel-pink color makes for a highly aesthetic and desirable specimen. Individual crystals have varying sizes up to 2.7 cm tall with some as thick as 1 cm. The vast majority of the 100 plus Calcite spires are complete and in good condition with only some minor bruising noted. This has STUNNING red-orange color under UV lights, and they are in fact famous for that feature as well as the organic, curved crystal style. A large high quality specimen with outstanding color saturation for this historical material and the overall geometric shape is even a pseudo "heart' shaped piece! Ex. Kurt Hefendehl collection.
