A large cabinet specimen of calcite from older finds, and the Steve Smale collection: The hexagonal calcite crystals are light pinkish color with layers: milky white-pinkish calcite on the outer edges and nearly colorless layer in the middle, all the crystals look like tasty white chocolate cookies. There are also plenty of smaller calcite crystals which have the same style. A classic from the early 2000s, this is a beautiful cabinet specimen of a flat limestone plate festooned with sharp discs of calcite to 3 cm, perched like sculptural art objects up upon it. Calcite is one of the most common minerals, but it is special and the matrix perfectly shows the environment while it is forming. A classic of the style, in unusually fine condition for the size.
