Cobalt-bearing Calcite (formerly Cobaltoan Calcite) is one of the most colorful varieties of this diverse and widespread species. The intense hues seen from the presence of cobalt is truly mesmerizing, as we see in this beautiful toenail-sized piece. Incredibly colorful and lustrous, these vivid deep pink Calcites cover the display side of this aesthetic specimen. The color is so strong in areas, it ALMOST looks purple, if that makes sense. The main crystal is positioned perfectly at the top of the specimen and measures 1.3 cm across. With a bit of backlighting, you can see that the main Calcite is actually gemmy inside and the color just GLOWS! The piece sits and displays wonderfully on its own with no need for clay or a base. A few minor rough spots can be seen, but the piece is still fine quality and features a robust and strikingly intense colored crystal proudly sitting atop the specimen.
