Item Description
Egremont Calcites are among the most famous examples of the species from any UK locality. This piece is a very sharp, highly lustrous, GEMMY, colorless crystal group showing a very unusual twinning habit, unlike anything I've seen from the area. The piece has a tiny bit of roughness on the edges, but it's in great condition overall and looks beautiful in person. It's very hard to photograph, but if you collect Calcites, twinned crystals or classics from Cumbria, do not miss out on this one. It's a special and really unique specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6890). There is an old hand-written label from Dr. Ing H. Maucher of Munich that mentions this piece is from the "Stillfork Mine" (possibly a mislabeling of the Gillfoot Park & Helder Mines). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
