Item Description

A really interesting and unusual Calcite specimen from the lesser known Dattaw-taung (Dattaw Hill) locality in the Mogok Valley. This small cabinet specimen features a "burst" (the label refers to it as a "pineapple" aggregate) comprising dozens of very gemmy, notably colorless, trigonal prismatic crystals, measuring up to 2.7 cm long, free of matrix. I can see a central "core" on one side of the piece, making me think it grew in a somewhat stalactitic-esque formation. Overall, the piece is in decent shape, but there are some obvious contacts, so it's not pristine. I have to say that I can't recall seeing a piece quite like this from Dattaw-taung, and it would make a great addition to any Calcite suite or a collection of minerals from Mogok/Myanmar.
From the collection of Bill ("Burma Bill") Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and worldwide mineral collector. Bill has traveled the world for decades in search of fine gems and minerals, and was directly involved in the in-person acquisition and importation of superb specimens and stones from Myanmar (Burma).
