Calcite (two generations) with Duftite and Hematite

Some combinations of minerals from Tsumeb are icons that literally define the oddity and diversity of the mine, through a complex and beautiful specimen. A classic specimen from the famed, and sadly long-closed, Tsumeb mine, these Calcite/Duftite combinations in all their variety are instantly recognizable. This fine miniature began with the first generation of Calcites, scalenohedrons which were then coated by reddish-brown Hematite. Subsequently, a preferential coating of sparkly microcrystals of vivid, pistachio-green Duftite coated portions of these crystals. Finally, the second generation of Calcite formed gemmy and highly lustrous rhombs up to 2.2 cm on edge. These rhombs help create the classic 'Calcite and green Duftite' look, and the edgewear along the relatively-soft Calcite detracts little from the fine aesthetics. The more you look at this piece as you rotate it around, the more details come into view. The interest, fascination, and appreciation for this miniature will grow, and you even come to realize that the large, gemmy rhombs themselves contain whitish, phantoms that are also preferential. Crazy! Observing the fluorescence from the contacted side further reveals even more the complex growth history of the Calcites. These sought-after, engaging Tsumeb combinations are uncommon classics thought to have come out in the 1960s. These are almost never available in any size or quality. This choice, balanced miniature should be valued at least $2500.
