Calcite (twinned)

Item Description

A classic, large, fishtail-twinned crystal of Calcite that wonderfully represents the old material from the Tri-State district locality of Picher, circa 1930s through 1960s. It has a smooth, naturally-pitted surface, and a rich, attractive golden-honey color. Complete-all-around save for the contacted bottom, it is very nearly pristine with only trivial termination edgewear. The V-notch and twinning plane are bold and dramatic, and, in fact, twinning along the {01 2} plane is rare for this well-known location. The form and aesthetics are excellent for this large, beautifully-formed Picher twin. Such old twins are generally valued at several thousand dollars. ex George Elling Collection.
