Item Description
A fantastic old English Calcite specimen from Egremont featuring sharp, well-formed, lustrous, gemmy, colorless twinned crystals measuring up to 3.7 cm. The crystals have a bit of iron inclusions, creating a dark brown-black hue in certain areas, giving them a pleasing two-tone effect. There is a cleaved section that can be seen on the front of one of the main crystals, but overall the piece is in great shape. A showy and good quality example of this historic material, renowned as some of the best old European Calcites from any locality.
This piece is from the collection of Colin Manlove, and comes with a label from the Denver Museum of Natural History (now DMNS) who acquired it from the collection of Dr. Florian Cajori, and traded the piece in 1982.
