Item Description

The closed open pit Au-Ag-Cu Red Dome Mine is known for superb cuprite specimens, but has also produced a few small pockets of very fine calcites. The complex twinned calcite rhombs in this aesthetic cluster on gossan matrix are very glassy, transparent to translucent and reach 3.2 cm. They resemble Herkimer quartz in clarity and similarity in their form. One gently bruised rhomb and periphery wear on the right are noted, but this remains a showy, rich and excellent example of this uncommon and desirable calcite from this locale. The piece displays well without aid. Difficult to photograph, with the extreme glassiness, clarity and natural internal crazing. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and valued at $300-400. These came over 10 years ago, with none since. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!!
