This well-known Indiana limestone quarry is famous for outstanding golden calcite crystals with complex form and this is an exceptional matrix example. A striking, beautiful, golden-amber, 5.5 x 4.8 x 4.6 cm, complex compound crystal is aesthetically set on the sculptural sandstone matrix. The highly lustrous, gemmy/translucent crystal has a cloudy, creamy core, adding character. Complete all-around and very nearly pristine. Very trivial edge rubbing and contacting where other crystals once lay, have no damage, per se. A fascinating, classic and very fine 360-degree North Vernon calcite at the top level of what was found in the 1960s-early 1980s. Every turn presents a different perspective. These calcites are seemingly underestimated in their quality and frankly were treasured by collectors when I grew up in the Midwest (and I collected here once as a teenager with no luck and nothing to write hom eabout from a day of digging) . . this would have been a very good one even back in the day they were coming out, for form and color both. Valued $1200-1500 easily, if you saw it at a show, especially if with a Midwest dealer who knows the history!
