Item Description

Here we have a beautiful example of classic the Picher Calcites. This piece is a fine, sharp, well-formed, gemmy/translucent scalenohedral crystal that features a soft golden hue, but in certain lighting, there is a distinct lavender overtone, rarely seen in Calcites from this area. Additionally, you can the outline of an internal "phantom" created by inclusions of metallic Marcasite, which mimic the pointed "dogtooth" shape of the Calcite crystal itself. The piece is in very good condition, save the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. A wonderful piece of this classic material from this well-known specimen-producing area. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
