Item Description
Striking calcite "skunks" are extremely rare from the recent well-known finds of botryoidal fluorite from Mahodari. Lustrous, tan, calcite scalenohedrons and a large rhomb have spectacular rows of honey-yellow fluorite botryoids preferentially deposited on crystals faces and resemble skunk stripes. The calcites rest on a large basalt matrix covered with glassy quartz points. These have a striking resemblence and probably similar depositional chemistry to the well-known calcite "skunks" of amethyst on calcite in the geodes of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The imposing two large scalenohedrons are 6.0 and 5.4 cm and both are pristine. This is possibly a unique combination specimen of form and quality from this locale. Value?? We believe in the $1000 range.
