Item Description
Botryoidal calcite is rare from this historic mining district. Translucent, cream-colored botryoids with brown siderite rhombs are nicely clustered on the mounded matrix of classic sharp, lustrous, galena cuboctahedrons. The calcites are in fine shape, overall. Bruising is noted to the piece, but this remains a fine and RARE combination from Neudorf. Undoubtably old-time material from the 1800s, as the mines closed in 1903. Ex Tom Wolfe Collection, whose label says this is calcite from Freiberg. The galena crystal forms and associations do not fit Freiberg. Value of such an old-time rarity??
