Item Description

A fantasy-like, biomorphic figure of two generations of calcite is dramatically set in the polished, sawed half of a septarian concretion nodule from an uncommon French locale. The cartoon-like figure looks like a dancing alien or insect with legs, extended arms, an elongated body and two antenna on the head. Septarian nodules are concretions containing angular cavities or cracks, which are called "septaria". The dramatic shrinkage voids are filled with two generations of calcite. An earlier generation of dark calcite lines the vug and cracks and a later generation of glassy, colorless calcite crystals fills the vug and cracks. Yellow LW UV fluorescence of the dark calcite and white fluorescence of the colorless calcite. A surreal looking large septarian nodule from France. Renard Vochten collection with label.
