Calcite (rich color)

These beautiful Calcites are some of the most distinctive examples of the species from any locality. They are from the Grabiszyce Quarry, which lies in far southwestern Poland near the Czech border. I will say that Poland is not typically known for its Calcites, especially like this. I was told that the pieces were actually collected starting in 2015, but they were not revealed to the public until a few years ago. According to the information online, the area that produced these specimens in nearly finished, so very little will coming out if any at all. They made a big splash at the Tucson Show a few years ago, and were very popular with collectors as you might expect due to their intense orange color and beautiful crystallization. The Calcites form in radial "sprays" consisting of narrow crystals on brecciated basalt matrix. Most of the cavities that produced these specimens are small and narrow, and it is very difficult to find pieces without damage and good coverage of crystals. This piece is a fine example of this exciting new material featuring a full coverage of sharp, translucent, rich orange colored crystals. No major damage on the display side and very eye-catching up close. If you collect worldwide Calcites, you have to add one of these to your collection. They will more than likely will disappear from the market soon, so don't miss out !
