Item Description

Texas is not the most mineral-abundant state in the US, so we're always thrilled to have pieces from our home to offer in the auctions. This is a really unusual Calcite listed only as coming from Fort Worth, and it's difficult to say exactly where it could have been found. I've seen similar specimens from Dallas, but never one listed as coming from Fort Worth. The piece hosts dozens of soft yellow colored, trigonal crystals measuring up to 7 mm long, sitting on septarian nodule matrix. Very good condition all around, the only damage is really around the periphery where it nodule was cracked open. A must-have specimen for any fan of minerals of Texas or rare locality pieces. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
