VERY RARE, old and impressive large crystallized calcite from a most obscure mine in the New Diggings area mines of the historic extinct Shullsburg lead-zinc mining district. Five large striking complex calcite rhombs are aesthetically intergrown on the massive calcite matrix covered with tiny calcites. The very glassy, translucent rhombs have satin lustre faces, reach up to 5.5 cm, and are dramatically enhanced stepped-growth faces and internal cleavage traces. New Diggings area mines were worked intermittently from 1824 until the 1970s. Ex Lee Burnett Collection of Morrison, Colorado. OLD and rare, as it comes with old cloth labels attached to the back. Value? Surely north of $1000 is reasonable for this rare and significant old-time Wisconsin calcite.
